Super Employees Create Super Content Marketing and PR Agencies

There are many reasons Look Left Marketing was named one of Inc.’s Best Workplaces. At the center of it all: great people.

Like most superhero stories, Look Left’s origin story starts with me almost dying. Jet-lagged, I bolted out of a rather heated, over-political meeting, wandered into a crosswalk and came within inches of getting killed by a cab. (Remember cabs?)

I wasn’t paying attention, and if I had seen the sign reading “Look Left,” I could have simply crossed the street. Instead, it was a wake-up call to pay more attention, especially to the need for something new and better. And after a year in the employment wilderness, it turned out that something was Look Left Marketing.

We’re five years into Look Left Marketing. We’ve had double-digit growth every year, and in 2022, we’ve been named both to Inc. 5000’s regional fastest-growing companies list, national fastest-growing companies list and Inc.’s Best Workplaces for 2022.

Now would be the time when standard blogs list all the reasons why we’re a great place to work. You know, benefits, flexible time, how we pay for all kinds of external learning, from conferences to creative writing degrees, blah, blah, blah. But it’s actually something else: the people. 

I feel pretty privileged to work with the folks who make our small-but-mighty agency run. There’s a reason we refer to our employees as “superheroes” and—increasingly—as “smarty-pants.” They are exceptional at what they do and get better every day. And they’re a joy to work with, even when we’re wrestling to figure out something hard or debating the next best answer.

I dare say we’re onto something here. Yes, I’m biased. Probably the most biased on the planet on this issue. But there’s mounting evidence. Last year, in the toughest recruiting environment I had ever experienced, we grew our group of smarty-pants by 25%. The PR industry (prior to the “Great Resignation”) had a turnover rate of 20%. Right now, ours is pretty much zero. And 25% of our clients are now in year four of working with us. That’s about twice as much as the industry average. Super people. Super clients. Super results.
